Larry Simmons grew up on a dairy farm in Mississippi, where dogs were as much a part of the job as they were a part of the family. By the age of eight, he was rounding up cattle daily with a German Shepherd Dog that was his constant companion. Larry has worked, played, and lived with German Shepherds and English Shepherds from childhood into the present.
After receiving a college degree in Communications, Larry began working in television broadcasting before taking a position at an international telecommunications company. While living and working in Jackson, MS, he still made time most weekends to travel six hours each way to learn about protection, police, and Schutzhund training. During this time Larry rehabilitated and trained a rescued American Bulldog that had been previously rejected by three homes for serious behavioral problems.
Larry moved to Florida in 2005 to work at Capital Canine, LLC. Capital Canine seemed like a perfect fit to him, where he had an opportunity to expand his understanding of canine behavior and work with a business that truly understands that the dogs they train and board are as much a part of the family as his own dogs. At Capital Canine, Larry has been a trainer, kennel technician, and now kennel manager. He always strives to build relationships with Capital Canine clients and their pets and to let them know that they all belong to the Capital Canine family.
Kristina Senter brings a diverse background in dogs to the Capital Canine team. At a very young age, Kristina began to study captive wolves and developed first-hand knowledge of canine pack structure and interaction. Kristina became very involved in dog rescue from the age of ten, where she trained numerous foster dogs in obedience in an effort to make these dogs more adoptable. Working with countless rescue dogs from every background imaginable offered her the opportunity to train and rehabilitate dogs of every temperament type.
From age sixteen, Kristina began training and handling show dogs and working dogs. This led her to successfully title her own dogs in American Street Ring and the Protection Sports Association. Further, she has titled a dog in AKC obedience that she later used as a therapy dog to the infirmed. Finally, Kristina has worked with several dogs that have been used in movies and television commercials.
Kristina was the tech manager for a large commercial boarding kennel in Virginia. This experience provided her with an opportunity to work with and observe a large number of dogs. Rounding off Kristina’s dog chops is the fact that she is an all breed dog and cat groomer. Kristina specializes in difficult dogs, but loves working with all dogs! Kristina graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Like many of you, I grew up with the “family” dog as part of the home decor. My adult life with dogs really began with a little Pit mix named Daisy Mae. I acquired Daisy when I witnessed her being mistreated in a yard at the age of four months. Had I known then what I know now…
Living with Daisy sparked my desire to educate myself regarding canine behavior. I owned a fear aggressive dog and had little understanding that her problems ran far deeper than what appeared on the surface. Daisy was the catalyst for my venture into the world of purebred dogs ten years ago... I needed to understand what makes these critters “tick.” My research led to a greater understanding of canine behavior (and human behavior!), and my desire to educate others about the importance of responsible breeding, imprinting and training of puppies and dogs was soon to follow.
After researching breeds, I acquired my first Rottweiler bitch, Eva Brawn (“Pooh”) in 1998. We acquired Dieter in 2000, and Attila came into our lives as a result of our first breeding. We acquired another lovely bitch, Story, in late 2004. We are Story’s third home, as not all people are cut out to own Rottweilers! Story, along with the others, have taught me invaluable lessons, and bring great joy to my life.
My interests lie in both the Conformation and Working sides of the Dog World. I dare say that I’ve come a long way in a short amount of time, the result of surrounding myself with ethical, knowledgeable, and talented folks who have reinforced my personal skills, knowledge, and ethics.
One of the most important and one of my favorite aspects of the dog world is the socialization and imprinting of puppies. In addition to intelligent breeding practices, proper handling of this phase of canine development is paramount in order to produce a dog which will become a stable and welcomed family companion. It’s much easier (and more FUN!!!) to rear a puppy properly, than to fix issues that result from improper rearing.
So, here I am, part of the Capital Canine Team. My primary goals here at Capital Canine are to care for your dogs in the most stress free environment possible, and to enhance your relationship with your beloved family companion.
